The Hajj pilgrimage draws millions of Muslims from around the world every year to
Mecca, the birthplace of the Prophet Muhammad, Islam's holiest place. Saudi Arabia
expects to host perhaps three million people in a ritual journey that every able-bodied
Muslim who can afford it must make at least once in their lifetime. It is the largest
annual gathering of humanity anywhere. Timed to the Muslim lunar calendar, the Hajj
is followed by the celebrations of the three-day festival of Eid al-Adha, or the Feast of
Sacrifice, which symbolizes Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his son.
每年麦加朝圣吸引来自世界各地的数百万穆斯林前往麦加。麦加是伊斯兰先知穆罕
默德的出生地，伊斯兰教最神圣的地方。沙特阿拉伯预计要接待大约三百万人参加这次
朝觐之旅。每一位有经济和有体力的成年穆斯林在其有生之年至少必须去麦加朝拜一次。
这是世界上最大﹑参加人数最多的年度聚会。麦加朝圣时间定于穆斯林的阴历年，其后
是为期三天的庆祝节日 --- 宰牲节，象征亚伯拉罕愿意牺牲自己的儿子。
