如何认识邓小平建设有中国特色社会主义的理论，认识确立这个理论在全党的指导地位具有何等重大的意义，这是一个很大的题目，需要作展开的深入的研究和论述，我今天只从刘少奇论毛泽东思想这个角度，讲一点简单的粗浅的意见，目的是为了引起大家深入的研究。

（一）

党的十四大以后，人们常常把十四大同七大相比较。十四大的历史贡献，就是确立了邓小平建设有中国特色社会主义理论在全党的指导地位，提出了用这个理论武装全党的任务。七大的历史贡献，就是确立了毛泽东思想在全党的指导地位，提出了用毛泽东思想武装全党的任务。历史在前进，但是，历史提出的任务有时却那样的相似。

七大之所以能够确立毛泽东思想的指导地位，是有它的历史背景的。建党以来，党领导的中国革命事业取得了大革命和土地革命两次胜利，又都失败了。在长征途中召开了遵义会议，这以后，逐步形成了以毛泽东为核心的中央领导集体，通过胜利到达陕北结束长征，倡议建立抗日民族统一战线，进行国共合作的抗日战争，迅猛地发展党领导的八路军和新四军，建立党领导的广大的敌后抗日根据地，党的事业获得了空前未有的大胜利。在这样的实践基础上，又经过延安整风，高级干部总结党的历史，全党思想有了很大提高，逐渐取得了这样的共识：毛泽东的道路是中国革命胜利的道路，毛泽东思想是指导中国革命取得胜利的思想。这个共识，为七大的召开作好了思想准备。七大会场上的横幅标语，就是“在毛泽东的旗帜下胜利前进”。举起毛泽东的旗帜，毛泽东思想的旗帜，当然不意味着放下我们党历来举着的马克思列宁主义的旗帜，而是强调马克思列宁主义的理论必须同中国革命的实践相结合，这个结合已经产生和形成了科学的成果，这就是毛泽东思想。

在促成这个共识的过程中，党的许多领导同志都作出了贡献，前些年党的文献工作者研究毛泽东思想这个概念提出和形成的过程，如实地介绍和评价了许多同志作出的贡献。少奇同志无疑在促其成、总其成方面，作出了最大的贡献。这都反映在他主持修改的七大党章和他所作的关于修改党章的报告中。

（二）

来开这个会议以前，我重读了少奇同志的修改党章报告（在建国以后出版时易名为《论党》），旧书新读，温故知新，又有新的收获。

少奇同志说：“党章的总纲上确立以毛泽东思想作为我们党一切工作的指针，在党章的条文上又规定：努力地领会马克思列宁主义、毛泽东思想的基础，是每一个共产党员的义务。这是我们这次修改的党章的一个最大的历史特点。”

那末，什么是毛泽东思想呢？毛泽东思想包括哪些内容？

少奇同志给毛泽东思想下了几个定义，我们这次会议上有一篇论文专门对此作了研究。

一个定义是：“马克思列宁主义的理论与中国革命的实践之统一的思想。”这是写进党章的定义，是我们通常记住了的定义。

一个定义是：“发展着与完善着的中国化的马克思主义”，“中国的马克思主义”，“中国的共产主义”。

大家知道，“马克思主义的中国化”这个口号，是毛泽东在六届六中全会论学习时提出的，它的准确的解释，就是马克思列宁主义的普遍真理与中国革命的具体实践相结合。上述几个定义，就是从这个口号来的。建国以后出版《毛泽东选集》时，毛泽东把这个口号改为“使马克思主义在中国具体化”。
