Marco Spies, Partner Strategy at think moto, 7 months agoHi, thanks for the presentation, I agree with most of it, though think, you can use agile methodology pretty well in the design phase of a waterfall process - cycling through ideation, design, prototyping, testing... I am currently writing a book on 'Branded Interactions – Designing Digital Brand Touchpoints' which will be published in autumn this year. The process chapter of the book will cover the topic as well.
iorinne7 months agoHi, good presentation, but the idea of a hybrid model of linear up-front UI design and agile implementation is not new. This idea is very nicely outlined already in a paper 'Ensuring quality of the user interface with the GUIDe process model' by Laakso et. al from 2004: http://www.cs.helsinki.fi/u/salaakso/papers/GUIDe.pdf

Stacy Branham1 year agoBeautiful presentation. One of the researchers in my lab has developed and field-tested a slightly different approach to agile usability. Like you, he advocates a dedicated usability engineer, but instead of keeping the UI dev up-front (which will keep the team waiting and push the deliverables back), he integrates it into the iterative cycles. You can check out the tradeoffs of this approach in his latest AGILE ’09 paper: http://people.cs.vt.edu/~chonglee/docs/agile09finalfinal.pdf .
fritz desir, experience designer, interaction designer, product strategist at Tribal DDB, 2 years agoJust stumbled on this. Short, sweet and balanced. Fantastic work for 39 slides. Thank you for putting together at least a *prototype* of how agile & ux/hcd/ucd play nice together. I’ve been looking at this for sometime and it’s great to see it flushed from the designer end.
Also on a separate note sorry I was not able to learn more about working with HOT in the NYC space you’re working on but all the best.
