increase “增加”、“增长”、“提高”，普通用词，可用作动词和名词，常指扩大体积、增加数量、速度、强度、价值等，也可用抽象意义上的增加、增长。 名词仍为increase。
1) The country is increasing its stock of grain for a possible poor harvest of crops.
（这个国家正在增加它粮食库存以防可能发生农作物欠收成。）
2) The director is pleased to learn there is a substantial increase in the sales of the product in second quarter.
（主任很高兴得知该产品二季度销售有大幅增加。）
multiply “增加”，指数量上成倍地激增。
1) The bad weather multiplied (greatly increased) the danger of their exploration.
（天气不佳大大增加了探险的危险。）
2) The new method of lottery tickets can multiply your chances to win prizes.
（这种彩票新的玩法,使你赢奖的机会大增。）
proliferate “激增”，本意是“增殖”、“繁衍”，可引申出“激增”。
