       这两个动词都可表示“藏”、“隐藏”的意思。hide 是普通用词,用法较广,指故意或无意地把某物或某人藏起来。conceal 是正式用词,指巧妙地把某物藏起来,故意性很强。这两个词都可引申表示“隐瞒”、“掩饰”等意思。

       

1) The hunter hid himself behind the bushes, searching for the games.

           (猎人藏在附近的灌木丛力, 守候猎物。)

2) The little boy hid /concealed the bottle under the safa.

          (这个小男孩把瓶子在沙发下面。)

       3) The settlers reported that some terrorists hid/concealed in the depth of the forest.

          (居住者报告说有一些恐怖主义者隐藏在森林深处。)

       4) Forgive me for not timely to tell you. I don’t deliberately hide the truth of the matter.

           (原谅我没有及时告诉你,我不是故意隐瞒事实真相。

5) At a masquerade party, the guests all wear masks to hide their identity.

          (在化妆舞会上,所有的客人都戴着面具隐藏自己的身份。)

6) He promises me that he will never conceal anything from me any more.

          (他答应我永远不会再对我隐瞒隐藏任何东西。)

7) It is not always easy to confess one’s mistakes, but it is inevitably difficult to conceal them.

           (要承认自己的错误不是容易的,但是要隐藏错误肯定是很难的。)

             这组动词都可表示“掩饰”、“掩盖”事实真相、人的身份、意图或情感等。

 

cover   基本意思是“覆盖”,可引申出“隐藏”、“ 掩饰”的意思,有时可说cover up。

    

1)He attempted to cover up the truth of the case, but it was soon discovered by the manager.

           (他试图掩盖这件案子真相,但是它很快就被经理发现。)

2) Some people use cosmetics for the purpose of covering up the deficiencies of nature.

          (有些人用化妆品的目的都是为了掩盖天生的不足。)

 

disquise  基本意思是“伪装”,指用服饰进行外貌的改变,将原貌伪装起来,蒙骗他人,可引申出“隐瞒”、“掩盖”的意思。

    

 1) The soldiers disguised themselves of wearing white garments in the snow.

            (士兵们在雪中穿着白色服装伪装自己。)

2) The detectors disguised as businessmen to get on the ship so as not to be recognized by the criminals.

   (侦探们假扮成商人登船以免被罪犯认出来。)

 3) She disquised her sorrow beneath a cheerful appearance.

            (她装出很愉快的样子掩盖她内心的忧伤。)

 4) The truth of the matter have come to light. It is no use disquising what you have lied.

       (事情已经真相大白,隐瞒你的谎言是没有用的。)

 

mask  基本意思是“口罩”、“面具”,因此指戴面具把自己伪装起来,常比喻用虚假的外表隐藏真实的意图、目的或感情。

 

 1) He tried his best to mask his disappointment when he learned he failed in the examination.

            (当他得知他考试没及格时,他竭力掩饰他的失望。)

 2) These dazzling statistics mask an offen more mundance reality.

            (这些耀眼的统计常常掩盖枯燥的现实。)

 

cloak    基本意思是“斗篷”、“披风”,引申出“掩饰”、“隐瞒”的意思,多指隐匿或掩盖某人的思想、目的、观念和信仰等。

 

 1) The appearance of their goodwill cloaked a sinister intention.

           (他们的善意外表后面隐藏着阴险的意图。)

 2) He cloaked his thoughts so that no one knew what he was thinking about.

             (他掩盖了他的想法,所以没有人知道他在想什么。)
