Parking your car in the centre of Amsterdam
We advice you not to take your car into the city centre. It is far better or to park it far from the centre on the free parking and use the public transport to continue your visit or to leave your car at one of the cheapPark+Ride parking lots located at the A10 ring.
Still, if you decide to do take your car to the centre of Amsterdam, be certain that you have paid for your parking. In the whole city center, you have to pay for the parking of your car at the parking machine and put the ticket behind the windshield. If you intend to stay in the centre of Amsterdam longer than a couple of hours, it is advisable to buy a day or a week parking ticket.
A day ticket is valid 9 a.m.-7 p.m. in the entire city, but not in the evening. It costs € 26,40. To park in the evening you should buy a night ticket, valid 7 p.m.-midnight; its price varies depend on the part of town - € 4,40up to € 17,60. Day and night ticket costs depending on the area of town up to € 39,60. A week ticket for the entire city costs € 158,40.
You may buy the parking tickets at the Service Centres of Stadtoezicht – a special municipal service watching after the street parking. Phone for the closest Stadtoezicht office at: 020 55 30 333. You should also contact them, if you forgot to pay for your parking or paid not enough and your car was immobilized by a wheel clamp (Denver boot).
A number of hotels sell also tourist parking tickets, which for certain areas of town may be cheaper than the ones sold by the Stadtoezicht.
A convenient solution is to leave your car in one of the big car parks in the city centre, where you pay on exiting, so you do not have to worry about your parking time. Entering the city, please notice the light information boards listing the number of free place in each of the car parks (also on the website: www.bereikbaar.nl).
