１２月９日是联合国确定的国际反腐败日。
腐败不仅是经济问题，也是政治和社会问题，它严重威胁着一个国家的发展与稳定，是对社会产生广泛腐蚀作用的“隐性恶疾”。腐败行为不仅破坏法治，损害政府的合法性，同时也削弱了政府的执行力。腐败还会造成投资减少，并为有组织犯罪和恐怖主义提供滋生的温床。
２００３年１０月３１日，第５８届联合国大会通过了《联合国反腐败公约》。同年１２月９日至１１日，联合国在墨西哥梅里达举行国际反腐败高级别会议，正式签署《联合国反腐败公约》。此后，联合国决定将每年的１２月９日确立为国际反腐败日，以纪念公约的签署和唤起国际社会对腐败问题的重视与关注。
２００５年１２月１４日，《联合国反腐败公约》正式生效，成为联合国历史上第一个指导国际反腐败斗争的法律文件，为世界性的反腐败斗争以及国际反腐败合作提供了国际法依据与保证。目前全球已有１４０个国家签署了该公约。中国全国人大常委会于２００５年１０月２７日审议并批准了该公约。
