divide ① “分开”，指将一件东西按一定比例分成若干部分，② “分类”把事物按一定的规律或标准分成类别，常接介词into连用。
1) The mother divided the cake among her children.
（母亲把蛋糕分给了她的孩子。）
2) We need a method to divide the premium fairly.
（我们需要一种方法公正地划分奖金。）
3) Garden crops may be conveniently divided into fruits, flowers and vegetables.
(园艺作物大致可以分成水果、花卉和蔬菜三大类。)
classify “分类”，仅用于指整体分成各部分，可与divide换用。
1）In the post office, mail in classified according to the places, where it is to go.
（邮局根据收件人的地址将邮件分类。）
2）Investors can be classified into two kinds: naive investors and sophisticated investors.
（他们将投资分成有两种:天真投资者和成熟的投资者.）
3）High blood pressure can be classified as primary and secondary.
（高血压可分为原发性高血压和继发性高血压。）
fall into 也可以表示“分类”，相当于 be divided into或 are classified into。只用主动语态。

(所有物质变化分成二大类：物理变化和化学变化。)
2) Progamming lauguages fall into tow major categories: low-level assembly languages and high-level assembly languages:
(程序设计语言主要分成两类：低级汇编语言和高级汇编语言。
sort 侧重指将事物按类型分类、整理。
1) The boy is sorting over the foreign stamps he has collected.
(这个男孩正在整理他收集的外国邮票。)
2）She sorted the photos and stuck them in separate allums.
(她把照片分了类，贴在不同的影集里。)
3）Garbages are required to be sorted for disposal or recycling.
(垃圾需要分类进行处理或回收.)
