这两个词看表示“命运”。

 

fate  “命运”,“宿命”,带有一定的迷信色彩,指预先就决定了的人的生死、成败、名数这种命运通常是人们无法控制或改变的。

     

 1) For years they had hoped a child of their own, but fate seemed against them, so they had to adopt a boy.

           (多年来他们一直希望有一个自己的孩子,但是命运似乎与他们作对,因此他们不得不领养一个男孩。

        2) He expected to become a doctor, but the fate decided otherwise.

           (他希望成为一名医生,但命运他决定他不成。)

 

destiny  “命运”,指可由自己或他人掌握的命运。

     

       1) I come from a rural family and expect to change my own destiny with my efforts.

          (我来自农村家庭,期望通过努力能改变自己的命运。)

       2) It was his destiny to die in a foreign country far from his family.

           (这是他的命运,死在国外远离他的家人。)

这三个词可表示“运气”。

 

luck   口语用词,泛指运气,可指一时遇到的好运气或坏运气。

 

 1) I wish you good luck on the exams next week.

           (我祝你下周的考试好运。)

 2) What a bad luck we had! I lost the game at the last round.

           (我们运气糟透了。到最后一轮我输掉了比赛。)

 

fortune  “命运”、“好运”,介于fate 和luck之间,可指好的命运,也可指好“运气”。

  

      1) But fortune smiles on those persons who know how to exploit a good opportunity.

        (但是运气会对懂得利用一个良好的机会微笑。)

      2) Fortune was with us and we finally won the game.

        (我们运气好,最终赢得了比赛。)

 

doom   “厄运”,指最终遭到悲惨或灾难的结局。

 

1) Once they decided to leave, the doom was inevitable.

          (一旦他们决定要离开就注定会有恶运。)

       2) At that time little did he know that his wrong decision would invited his doom.

          (那时他丝毫也不知道他的错误决定会招来厄运。)
