avert
avoid “避免”、“躲避”、“逃避”，指事先有准备地避免某事或某行动。
1) We all cautiously avoided mentioning the accident before his grandmother.
（我们都小心翼翼他的祖母避免面前提到这次事故。）
2) Other aspects of culture must be researched and understood if marketers are to avoid blunders.
（如果广告商想要避免失误，他们就必须研究并了解文化的各个方面。）
escape “逃避”、“躲避”，基本意思是“逃跑”，可引申出“避免疾病、痛苦、事故等”、免除，逃脱灾难等。
1）Nowadays no one can escape being attracted by advertisements in the streets.
（现在没有人能逃脱在街上被广告吸引。）
2) As long as you invest in the share market, you can never escape from the possibility of losing money.
（只要你投资股票市场,你就永远无法摆脱亏损的可能性。）
evade “逃避”、“回避”，指有意或无意地避开某事。
1) He is essentially an honest businessman; he will not resort to illegal means to make profit or evade taxation.
（他本质上是一个诚实的商人；他不会采取非法手段获取利润或偷税漏税。）
2) He tried to evade the embarrassing question by pretending to have an urgent matter to deal with.

shun “避开”、，出于某种原因有意地避开某人或某事。
1) When walking alone during the deep night, you’d better shun dark streets.
（深夜独自行走时,你最好避开黑暗的街道上。）
2) His friends began to shun him for the simple reason that he was involved in deep debts.
（他的朋友开始回避他, 理由非常简单的因为他陷入了很大的债务。）
avert “避免”、“防止”，基本意思“挡开”，常引申出避免、防止是灾祸、危险等发生。
1) Many traffic accidents could have been averted by the courtesy of the drivers.
（如果驾驶员懂得礼让，许多交通事本可以避免的。）
2) In order to avert any possible disaster, all traffic over the harbor bridge is halted during the typhoon.
（为了避免任何可能的灾难, 在台风期间所有海港大桥都停止通行。）
