take part in

participate    正式用词，指与他人共同参加某种活动，接介词in。常用结构participate in， 口语中常用动词短语take part in 。(指参加某种活动并在其中起一份作用。)

  1) They often participate in the social and cultural activities in the community.

           （他们经常参与社区的社会文化活动。）

2) Many expert geologists have participated in the survey of this area.

   （许多专家级的地质学家已经参与了这个区域调查.）

3) The majority of the states in this region decided to participate in the conference.

          （这一地区大多数国家决定参加这次会议。）

4) Did you take part in the discussion on how to spend summer vacation?

          （你参加了关于如何度暑假的讨论了吗?）

  5) I’d love to join in a concert, but I really don’t like to take an active part in it.

join   “加入”， 指加入某个组织，如表示参加他人的活动需用join sb. in (doing) sth.

1) He joined an international green environment body and took an active part in it.

          （加入了国际绿色环保组织并积极参与其活动。）

2) The headmaster says that he will join us in the discussion tomorrow afternoon.

（校长说他要参加我们明天下午的讨论。）

 engage  “参加”，“参与”、“使加入”，基本意思是“从事”，也可表示参与到某事或某活动中。常用结构是：  engage in；   engage sb. in

         3) If you engage in local politics, you cannot expect to have much time for your family.

           （我没有时间去从事小道消息,所以请不要来找我谈你的谣言和投诉。）

        5) He engages her wife in various social activities, but never in his buisness.

           （他让他的妻子参与各种社会活动,但绝不让她参与他的生意。）

enter   由“进入”引出“参加”、“加入”。enter for  “报名参加”。

 6) Shall I enter / join the Navy or the Army?

    （我可以加入海军或陆军吗？）

 7) Everyone present at the party will have a chance to enter our lucky lottery.

            (每个出席这次晚会人都将有机会参加我们的幸运抽奖。)

        8) Anyone who wants to take part in the tour must enter for it before Next Monday.

           （任何想参加这次巡演的人必须在下星期一报名。）

         attend   仅指参加会议、聚会等。

         9) I will go to Europe to attend an important international conference next week.

           （下周我将去欧洲出席一个重要国际会议。）

 10) I am afraid that I cannot go to your party since I have to attend a friend’s wedding ceremony tomorrow night.

            （恐怕我不能去参加你们的聚会，因为明天晚上。我必须去参加一个朋友的婚礼。）

sit for   指参加考试。

 1) There have been an increasing number of young graduates who sit for their examinations as civil servants in recent year.

            （最近几年有越来越多的年轻毕业生参加公务员考试。）
