  这组动词都含“分开”、“分离”的意思。

 

separate “分离”“分开”, 指把原来接在一起的东西分开或把从混合在一起的东西中将某物分出来。

 

1) We should separate the good ones from the bad ones.

     (我们必须把好的苹果和坏的苹果分开。)

2) England is separated from France by the British Channel.

   (英国和法国之间隔着英吉利海峡。)

3) Anyone is not allowed to separate Taiwan from its motherland China for any sake.

          (任何人都不允许以任何的理由把台湾从中国大陆分开。)

 

isolate “隔离”、“使孤立”、“脱离”,指人或物隔离开来,不让相互接触或影响。

 

1) The Party cannot live and develop if it isolates itself from the non-party masses.

          (如果党把自己与党外群众分离,它就不能生存和发展的。)

2) The infectious patients must be isolated from other patients in the hospital. 

          (在医院里感染病人必须与其他病人隔离。)

 

detach  “脱离”、“分离”,指一小部分从一个较大的整体上分开。

 

1) He managed to detach the burning coach from the train, preventing other coaches from being burned down. 

          (他成功地把燃烧的车箱与火车脱离,防止了其他车箱被焚毁。)

2) The heavy downpour rain detached great rocks from the mountainside, causing a landslide.

         (倾盆大雨使巨大岩石从山坡脱落,造成山崩滑坡。)

 

 

segregate “分离”、“分隔”,可指物分离开来,相当于separate,也可用于表示种族或宗教上的隔离。

 

       1)This design makes sure that the waste is easy to segregate and can easily be taken out for recycling.

           (该设计确使废弃物容易被分隔,进行回收。)

       2)While Americans have largely integrated in the workplace during the week, blacks and whites still tend to segregate themselves on weekends.

           (虽然美国人在一周上班的日子里大多聚集在工作场所,但在周末黑人和白人仍然倾向于分开。)
