【化学成分】全草含黄酮类(槲皮素等)、没食子酸、内消旋肌醇。叶含鞣质12.89%。 叶含鞣质 12.89%，并分离出没食子酸甲酯及槲皮素。又全草含黄酮类、没食子酸；又谓含槲皮素甙类及山柰素甙类。另有报道含生物碱及挥发油。

【原生形态】地锦草一年生草本，含白色乳汁。茎通常从根际成二歧分生为数枝，平卧地面，呈红色，通常无毛。叶2列对生：椭圆形，长5～10毫米，宽4～6毫米，先端圆，基部不等形，边缘有细锯齿，上面绿色，下面绿白色；叶柄极短；托叶线形，通常3深裂。杯状聚伞花序，单生于枝腋或叶腋；总苞倒圆锥形，淡红色，边缘4裂；腺体4枚，椭圆形；雄花数朵和雌花1朵同生于总苞内；雄花仅雄蕊1；雌花位于花序中央，子房有长柄，3室，花柱3，2裂。蒴果扁卵形而小，有3棱，无毛。种子卵形。花朋7～8月。生于田野路旁及庭院间。
