　　不爱吃胡萝卜的孩子是不是都有被妈妈逼着吃胡萝卜的悲惨历史？现在可以理直气壮的跟妈妈说：胡萝卜根本不能提高视力，都是骗人的！原来这只是二战期间英国政府为了隐藏雷达技术而编出来的故事。

Like many kids, I didn’t like vegetables —especially carrots and broccoli. Adults frequently told me that carrots wouldimprove my eyesight, so that seemed like a good reason to tryliking them.

He didn’t sayanything immediately, but he let me in on a little secret afterthat person left the room — it was all a big lie. Carrots do notimprove your eyesight.

Sure, carrots contain beta-carotene, which metabolizes into Vitamin A and everyone agrees that isessential for maintaining eye health, but it does not improve it(unless the body is deprived of it to begin with). Also, it reallyhas nothing to do with carrots, the necessary vitamins can comefrom any source.

So where did this myth come from?

During World War II, the British were particularlygood at shooting down Nazi bombers at night, when it’s almost impossible to see otherplanes. It was as if they had super-human sight, and they did. Theyhad radar.

Once news stories started to circulate about these pilots with seemingly super-humaneyes, the government needed a good explanation to prevent theGermans from learning about this technology. Carrots.

Flight Lieutenant John Cunningham, nicknamed ”Cats Eyes” for hisincredible ability to shoot down enemy planes, had a natural lovefor carrots. The story wrote itself and they explained that theywere feeding other pilots a lot of carrots to improve theireyesight too.
