叶选基是叶帅的侄儿，自上世纪50年代末以后一直生活在叶帅身边，直至1987年叶帅去世。在粉碎“四人帮”和拨乱反正的岁月里，叶选基在叶帅身边亲历了一幕幕惊心动魄的场景。为了解这些鲜活的历史瞬间，笔者多次走进位于京郊的叶选基先生寓所，聆听这位71岁老人讲述粉碎“四人帮”、邓小平复出和拨乱反正中鲜为人知的内幕。

粉碎“四人帮”消息先通知王震、邓小平

眼前的叶选基虽已到了“从心所欲不逾矩”的年龄，却依然锋芒凸显。他身着一件黑色呢绒夹克，显得略长的板刷平头棱角分明，头发黑而茂密且根根直竖，讲起话来言辞激昂，面部表情丰富，手势幅度较大。我们的交流从回忆1976年10月6日那一夜开始……

是夜，即粉碎“四人帮”后的当晚，中央政治局在玉泉山9号楼连夜召开紧急会议。参加会议的有华国锋、叶剑英、汪东兴、李先念、陈锡联、苏振华、纪登奎、吴德、倪志福、陈永贵、吴桂贤共11人。叶帅的办公室主任王守江、警卫长马西金等负责布置会场。中办副主任李鑫、中办秘书局局长周启才列席会议。周启才作记录，王守江在外面守候。

深夜11时左右，叶剑英的儿子叶选宁和侄子叶选基在后海小翔凤（叶帅在城里的家）突然接到叶帅的警卫长马西金打来的电话：“首长让我告诉你们，‘那四个人’给抓起来了。”叶选宁和叶选基明白“那四个人”是指“四人帮”，当时还没有“四人帮”这个说法。他们也是除了在玉泉山9号楼开会的人之外，最早知道粉碎“四人帮”消息的人。

接到消息后，叶选宁和叶选基马上决定尽快把这个大快人心的消息通知大家。他们立即叫上“拉费克”开车，先到西郊机场去找“头头”。“拉费克”是叶帅的司机任天庆，因长的特别黑，像非洲人，大家给他起了个亲昵的外号“拉费克”。“头头”是叶帅最小的儿子叶选廉的小名，他当时是空军34师专机组的飞行员。叶选宁和叶选基先到西郊机场告诉他这个消息，又从那里直接到了位于永安里的国管局宿舍“九层楼”告诉了叶选平。
