      恩雅原名 Eithne Ni Bhraonain，1961年5月17日生于爱尔兰西北的多尼戈尔郡的圭多尔，在九个兄弟姐妹中排行老五，所有的家庭成员在爱尔兰传统民族音乐圈里都是知名的人物。在学校的时候，恩雅的专业是钢琴和古典音乐。 1979年，恩雅在家族成员组成的家庭乐队里担任键盘和和声，在专辑《CrannUll》和《Fuaim》中都留下了恩雅早期的声音。 1982年，在乐队结束欧洲巡演后，由于对乐队追随流行趋势不感兴趣，恩雅离开了乐队。恩雅与知名的跨国唱片公司WEA签约，她的第二张专辑《水印》取得了彻底的成功。该专辑全球销量超过一千万张,在其中的单曲“Orinoco Flow”(英国排行第一)的帮助下，《水印》在个国家取得了白金销量。接着她靠《牧羊人的月亮》重现了在全球的成功，该专辑令人惊讶地在美国Billboard排行榜上待了19周，而且销量超过1千1百万张。2002年，恩雅的“May It Be”获得金球奖和奥斯卡的最佳原创歌曲提名。同时《A Day without Rain》赢得一座新的格莱美最佳新世纪专辑奖，三项世界音乐奖：最畅销女艺人、最畅销新世纪音乐艺人以及最畅销爱尔兰艺人，歌曲 “Only Time”在德国回声奖上捧得最佳流行-摇滚单曲。
