凡文字有声音之美，有传神之美，文气文体之美，英语为拼音文字，“音美”

构成其一个突出的审美特征。要说“音美”，那压韵就理应首当其冲了。英语中的压韵虽然和汉语差不多，但是汉语中通常压尾韵，而英语中通常压头韵。所以英语中就有一种修辞方法叫头韵。

     头韵一词源于拉丁语，意思是重复使用同一个字母。作为一种修辞格，指的是在一组词、一句话或一行诗里，在彼此靠近的两个或两个以上的词中，其开头的音节（或其他重读音节）具有相同的字母或声音，主要是辅音字母。事实上，在诗中运用头韵的是最普遍的，所以说英文歌词中最具诗性的修辞可谓就是头韵了。从某种程度上说，音乐与头韵是有着千丝万缕的关系。头韵的主要修辞作用是增强语言的节奏感，此外还可用于模拟很多事物的声响，以使语言表达更为生动形象，特别是有些头韵短语既简短明快，有富于表现力，还具有音乐感，起到渲染对比的作用。所以用有音乐感的头韵来装点音乐中的歌词，欣赏这样的歌词就像在品尝人间极品了。

     在英文歌词中的压韵却不只有头韵这一种，而是有像汉语压韵一样压尾韵的。压尾韵在英语中并没有严格的定义，但是在英文歌词中这种压韵却是屡见不鲜的。压尾韵的好处就是使人感觉歌曲的音律非常归整，听起来也给人非常舒服的感觉，而且最重要的是给人一种气势，给人一种强调的感觉，让听者不由的注意到了其中压韵的那些单词以及那些单词的深意。可以这么说，在英文歌曲中的压尾韵就是在一段有四句或者多于四句的词中，每一行的最后一个单词的结尾的音节具有相同的字母或声音，主要是元音字母。这段歌词可以是一三行的尾音压韵，也可以是二四行的尾音压韵。也有在一句话中压韵的，这样就跟压头韵一样了，就是变成了在一句话中，在彼此靠近的两个或两个以上的词中，其结尾的音节具有相同的字母或声音，主要是元音字母。在英文歌词中，有很多的情况是各种压韵混在一起的，虽然有压韵非常工整的，但也不乏压韵中出现的种种意外。下面我们就赏析几段很有代表性的压韵的歌词。

分析：这段歌词有好几处压头韵的地方。Under the moonlight you see a sight that almost stops your heart这句中see、sight、stops压的是[s]韵，You try to scream but terror takes the sound before you make it这句中terror和takes压的是[t]韵，But all the while you hear the creature creepin' up behind这句中creature和 creepin'压的是[cr]韵。这首歌从歌名就可以看出是一首很恐怖的歌曲，歌中也确实渲染了一种很恐怖的氛围，歌中不断迫近的头韵，渲染那令人窒息的恐怖气氛，以及主人公的颤栗之感。夜色蒙蒙，亦真亦幻的恐怖在歌中层层递进的头韵使颤栗之感直击人心，无法躲藏。

分析：这一小段歌词虽然短小，但是在一句话种的头韵和尾韵都运用的很贴切。Summer stretching on the grass... summer dresses pass这句话同时运用了头韵和尾韵：Summer 和stretching压的是[r]的头韵，grass 、dresses和 pass压的[s]的尾韵。In the shade of a willow tree creeps a crawling over me中creeps 和 crawling压[kr]的头韵。Over me and over you stuck together with god's glue这句中则压god's和 glue压的是[g]的头韵。开头前三句的几段压韵，带出了歌中为了光明的向往，不惜失去光明的一种情绪。豪言壮语之余，对心中的上帝还是有怀疑U2开始暴露给听众的是失意，嘲讽和反抗。音乐是凄迷游走的声线加上Bono时高时低，挥洒自如的表演。初听这后半段会极不舒服，但是慢慢品位你也许会觉得这是一首追逐希望的颂歌。

分析： 这段歌词押的尾韵也是很明显的 。这段是两段两段的押尾韵的。 一二行wall,all压 [ ?：l ] 韵，三四day ,CPA行压 [e?]韵，五六door,four行压[ ?：]韵，而最后两句man,plan则是压[?n]韵的。这段工整的押韵再配上歌者很有磁性的嗓音，使得这段变得很有力度，给人以很强的震撼力，让听者难忘。而且这段是这首歌的开头，开头就点出了主人公被生活磨得曾经的理想都不知道那里去了，让我们认识到了不管时光怎样流逝，都要坚守自己的理想。

分析：这段押的尾韵是很简单的，很容易看出这段history，legacy，glory，liberty压的是[ i ]韵，前面的every day,every path ,every soldier ,every legend 这几个词就更加加深了整段歌词的流畅性，再加上后面押尾韵所助的一臂之力就更加的流畅了。这段压的尾韵极金尽所能，强调和烘托出了人类历史的光辉历史以及无限荣耀，让人记忆犹新。
