健康才时尚,防患于未然


尽管大家都知道,医生是专业的,我们有时还是偏信自己的主观判断。然而,如果碰到以下五种情形,最好还是看医生。

Despite the fact that doctors have years of training, we often think we know best. Here are five situations when you should leave the self-prescribing at home and head straight to your doctor.

 

如果头痛四周以上,你常服止痛药依然难以见效,这时候要去看医生了。常服止痛药会让头痛持续,让疼痛反弹。医生会测量你的血压,找出头痛的原因,比如压力过大也可以导致头痛。医生或许建议你停服或者少服止痛药,多做放松运动,接受按摩等。

1.    You’ve had a headache for four weeks and regularly pop painkillers.

You could be making your headache worse, plus, too much aspirin can cause stomach ulcers. Continual use of painkillers can perpetuate pain – it’s called a rebound headache. If you’ve had a bad headache for over a week, see your doctor please. They’ll take your blood pressure and check for other causes, such as stress. Your doctor may suggest relaxation, massage and cutting back on painkillers.

 

如果在手臂上注意到一颗痣,或者异常凸起,感觉痛痒等,你要去看医生。现在皮肤癌的发病率徒增,尽管去看医生,可能的结论是没有大碍。如果这需要切除,你发现越早,也就避免了更大的伤疤,或者它是细菌性感染哪怕仅是一个囊肿,都不要小觑,看看皮肤病医生,确认了才安全。

2.    You’ve noticed a change in a mole on your arm.

Malignant melanoma (skin cancer) is on the increase and any change needs to be investigated. Any mole or lump that’s itchy, sore or looks funny should be checked out. But the chances are it’s nothing nasty. If you catch a mole early you can potentially avoid a large scar if it needs removing; alternatively it could be a bacterial infection or a cyst. So go to your dermatologist to be sure.

3.    You’ve lost some weight but haven’t been dieting.

It could be diabetes, an overactive thyroid gland or – most unlikely of all – cancer.

If you’ve lost more than 3 kilos, and are tired and thirsty, or if you have any other odd symptoms, you need to get them checked out. These could be signs of diabetes, which if left untreated could induce a coma. If you feel hot, sweaty and anxious you could have an overactive thyroid gland. Very occasionally, weight loss and tiredness can be a sign of cancer. You just need to take a blood test and from that we’d either be able to confirm or rule out diabetes and an overactive thyroid gland. Investigations for cancer would depend on the type suspected.

 

睡眠一直不好,却喜欢借酒消愁。酒精会影响睡眠质量,尽管你可能因为饮酒而容易入睡,但睡眠质量肯定不好。失眠时抑郁的症状,而酒精是抑郁因素,因此不能借助酒精帮助睡眠。长期如此会形成酒精依赖性,很多人常犯的错误是,迟迟不肯就医,等抑郁形成了,就难以治疗了。如果及早就医,就可以有不同方案应对,不需要借助兴奋剂。

4.    You’ve had trouble sleeping and have been knocking yourself out with a few glasses of wine.

Alcohol disturbs sleep, so even though you drop off easily, you have a worse night’s rest. Also, insomnia is often a symptom of depression and since alcohol is depressant, it’s not a great combination. Relying on alcohol is counter-productive in the long run and can lead to dependency. Many people make the mistake of waiting several months to seek help, but once depression is more established, it’s harder to treat. If you see the doctor earlier they can suggest strategies and try to avoid anti-depressant.

 



 

你的月经变得粘稠,你不要想当然,认为是生活规律的变化使然。粘稠并疼痛的月经一般都是不正常的预兆。这样你会失血过多,有导致贫血的危险,粘稠月经可能提示衣原体疾病,子宫内膜异位或者VWD,一种罕见的凝血障碍疾病。如果月经在3到4个月内不能回复正常,最好去就医,可以轻松排除一些可能,比如贫血,甲亢或者甲状腺功能低下等。

5.    Your periods are heavier but you assume it’s due to lifestyle changes.

Heavy, painful periods are never normal and often a symptom of something else. With heavy periods you lose a lot of blood and are at risk of anemia. They can also be a sign of chlamydia, endometriosis and Von Willebrands, a rare clotting disease. If your periods aren’t back to normal after three or four months you’d better take a blood test to check for a number of things, including anemia and overactive and underactive thyroid glands.
