Critical Patch Update Availability Information for Oracle Server and Middleware Products

Released: January 16, 2007
Updated: January 18, 2007

Oracle provides critical patch updates (CPUs) to its customers to fix known bugs that are critical in nature. These updates occur every quarter. This document covers the patch availability for the following Oracle products:

  • Oracle Application Server

  • Oracle Collaboration Suite

  • Oracle Database

  • Oracle Developer Suite

  • Oracle Enterprise Manager

  • Oracle HTTP Server

  • Oracle Workflow Cartridge

In order to download and apply the correct CPU for your environment, you should make a list of all your Oracle products, the release numbers and components. Once you have this information, this document will direct you to the correct CPU for your environment.

This CPU document applies to Oracle server and middleware products. For information about Oracle E-Business Suite, review OracleMetaLink Note 402670.1: Oracle E-Business Suite Critical Patch Update Note January 2007, which contains information related to Oracle E-Business Suite products.

The following sections show you how to determine the following:

  • Oracle Environment Settings

  • Minimum Requirements

  • Patch Availability

Note:

This critical patch update supersedes earlier critical patch updates that have been released for the same product releases.

The names of the operating systems have been shortened for this document, as follows:

Operating System Name AIX Based Systems AIX Apple Mac OS X MacOS hp OpenVMS Alpha VMS hp Tru64 UNIX Tru64 HP-UX Itanium HP Itaninum HP-UX PA-RISC HP-UX IBM S/390 Based Linux Linux S/390 IBM z/OS (OS/390) OS/390 IBM zSeries Based Linux zLinux Linux Linux Linux Itanium Linux Itanium Linux on POWER Linux on POWER Linux x86 Linux x86 Linux x86-64 Linux x86-64 Microsoft Windows (32-Bit) Windows 32-bit Microsoft Windows (64-Bit) on Intel Itanium Windows Itanium Microsoft Windows x86-64 Windows x86-64 Non-Microsoft Windows UNIX Solaris Operating System (SPARC) Solaris Solaris Operating System (x86) Solaris x86 Solaris Operating System (x86-64) Solaris x86-64

1 Oracle Environment Settings

The following sections describe how to determine your environment settings:

  • Section 1.1, "Database Storage Tier Information using the Command Line Interface"

  • Section 1.2, "Oracle Application Server Release Information"

  • Section 1.3, "Oracle Workflow Cartridge Release Information"

1.1 Database Storage Tier Information using the Command Line Interface

The database storage tier includes the databases used with the following products:

  • Oracle Application Server Infrastructure

  • Oracle Application Server Metadata Repository

  • Oracle Collaboration Suite Information Store, also known as Oracle Collaboration Suite Database

  • Oracle Database

  • Oracle E-Business Suite

  • Oracle Management Repository

The following procedure describes how to determine the release information for your database storage tier.

  1. Start SQL*Plus as follows from the Oracle home directory:

    sqlplus /nolog SQL> conn / as sysdba

    The output is:

    Connected
  2. Enter the following command:

    SQL> select * from v$version;

The command returns the release information, such as the following:

    Oracle9i Enterprise Edition Release 9.2.0.7.0 - Production PL/SQL Release 9.2.0.7.0 - Production CORE 9.2.0.7.0 Production TNS for 32-bit Windows: Version 9.2.0.7.0 - Production NLSRTL Version 9.2.0.7.0 - Production

1.2 Oracle Application Server Release Information

To determine the Oracle Application Server release information, check the installed product information using the Oracle Universal Installer, or view the InstallData section in the contents of the ias.properties file. The ias.properties file is located in the following directory:

  • UNIX:

    ORACLE_HOME/config/ias.properties
  • Windows:

    ORACLE_HOME\config\ias.properties

1.2.1 Disable Servlet Invocation by Class Name

Disable the http.webdir.enable servlet attribute in production environments for Oracle Application Server releases 10.1.2.x.x and earlier by setting the attribute to false. You can disable servlet invocation by class name using one of the following methods:

  • In the orion-web.xml file, set the servlet-webdir attribute of to a value of "" (empty quotation marks) to disable the feature on a per application basis. The following orion-web.xml example would disable invocation by class name for the given application:

                    ...
  • Set the http.webdir.enable attribute to false to disable this feature for all applications. This setting results in any servlet-webdir setting being ignored. The following opmn.xml example would disable invocation by class name for all applications:

                                                                                    ... ...

See Also:

This is not a requirement for applying or using CPUs. For more information, refer to the release notes for your product. Release notes are available at Oracle Technology Network.

1.3 Oracle Workflow Cartridge Release Information

Oracle Workflow Cartridge is installed as follows:

  • Non-default option for Oracle Database

  • CMSDK component for Oracle Application Server

  • Optional for Oracle Files in Oracle Collaboration Suite release 9.0.x

  • Non-default option for Oracle Collaboration Suite release 10g

To determine the Oracle Workflow release information, do the following:

  1. Log in to the database as the owf_mgr user.

  2. Run the following command:

    select wf_core.translate(‘WF_VERSION‘) from dual;

5 Documentation Accessibility

Our goal is to make Oracle products, services, and supporting documentation accessible, with good usability, to the disabled community. To that end, our documentation includes features that make information available to users of assistive technology. This documentation is available in HTML format, and contains markup to facilitate access by the disabled community. Accessibility standards will continue to evolve over time, and Oracle is actively engaged with other market-leading technology vendors to address technical obstacles so that our documentation can be accessible to all of our customers. For more information, visit the Oracle Accessibility Program Web site at http://www.oracle.com/accessibility/.

Accessibility of Code Examples in Documentation

Screen readers may not always correctly read the code examples in this document. The conventions for writing code require that closing braces should appear on an otherwise empty line; however, some screen readers may not always read a line of text that consists solely of a bracket or brace.

Accessibility of Links to External Web Sites in Documentation

This documentation may contain links to Web sites of other companies or organizations that Oracle does not own or control. Oracle neither evaluates nor makes any representations regarding the accessibility of these Web sites.

TTY Access to Oracle Support Services

Oracle provides dedicated Text Telephone (TTY) access to Oracle Support Services within the United States of America 24 hours a day, seven days a week. For TTY support, call 800.446.2398.
