美國國務院（英語：United States Department of State，有時亦稱State Department），是美國聯邦政府負責外交事務的機構，相當於世界各國的外交部，其行政首長為國務卿；美國國務院是美國最龐大的政府機構之一，位於美國首都華盛頓特區。現任的國務卿是希拉蕊·柯林頓（Hillary Clinton）。

1789年，美國國會曾立法建立「外交事務部」，這是美國憲法生效後聯邦政府的第一個部，不過，它的名稱很快就改為國務院。國務院除了處理外交事務，也掌管一些國內職責，比如，美國的國璽至今仍由國務院保管。^[1]

• 國務院官銜一般分為：國務卿（Secretary）、副國務卿（Deputy Secretary）、次卿（Under Secretary）、助卿（Assistant Secretary）、副助卿（Deputy Assistant Secretary）。

• 副國務卿—副國務卿為次於國務卿之官員，下轄各有專職的六位次卿與下列職務或單位：

  • 國際安全暨防核武擴散局（Bureau of International Security and Nonproliferation）
  • 外交軍事事務局（Bureau of Political-Military Affairs）
  • 確認、承諾及履行局（Bureau of Verification, Compliance, and Implementation）

• 負責民主及全球事務之次卿—全球事務辦公室是由柯林頓辦公室為了能掌握新興外交影響力所建立的，2005年改名為民主暨全球事務辦公室，以增加民主在美國外交政策中的份量：
  • 民主人權暨勞工局（Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor）
  • 海洋及國際環境暨科學事務局（Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs）
