　　齐白石，小名阿芝，早年因雕花手艺出众被称为“芝木匠”，后潜心钻研诗文、金石、绘画，坚持艺术理想，笔耕不辍。晚年进行“衰年变法”，师法自然。1953年，齐白石获文化部“人民艺术家”荣誉称号。代表作品有《兰花》、《虾》、《钟馗》等

　　这幅画为齐白石老人87岁时所作。画中一群小鸡生动活泼，你追我赶，一路向前，刨土啄食，其乐融融。

　　齐白石主张艺术“妙在似与不似之间”。他衰年变法，绘画师法徐渭、朱耷、石涛、吴昌硕等，形成独特的大写意国画风格，开红花墨叶一派，尤以瓜果菜蔬花鸟虫鱼为工绝，兼及人物、山水，名重一时，与吴昌硕共享“南吴北齐”之誉。
