“打电话”的英语表达有call, ring, telephone, make a telephone call, give sb. a ring等。同学们在学习和运用这些词语时，对它们各自的含义和用法难以分辨。本文拟就其含义和用法作一简单介绍。
一、call作动词用（多用于美国英语），表示“用电话传递信息、召唤某人”之意，其后常跟副词up（亦可省略）。例如：

2. Could you ask him to call me, please?

二、ring作动词用（多用于英国英语），较口语化。它既可接直接宾语，又可构成ring for 短语再接宾语。例如：

3. I”ll ask him to ring you as soon as he gets back.
