一首好的歌曲就是生活感受的反映，而不同的歌曲则能代表我们在不同的生命时期的心路历程。如我们曾介绍的一棵奉献树(The Giving Tree)就是少年成长的心境；而未曾有自我(I've Never Been to Me)可算是中年沧桑的写照。今天我们所要介绍的这首蝴蝶之吻(Butterfly Kisses)则是一首父亲为女儿写的歌，藉此父亲节之际献给默默地关爱着子女的父亲们，也希望为子女者能够体会到这份虽不常常挂在嘴上，却是十分厚重深沉的——父爱。
在介绍这首歌曲之前，我们必须先来解释一下什么是所谓的Butterfly Kiss。这可不是指蝴蝶飞过来亲吻哦，而是当大人和小孩以脸部亲昵地靠在一起时，其中一人的眼睫毛，随着眼睛的眨动，轻轻的刷拂在另外一人的脸颊上，或者是两个人额头面对面的凑在一起，双方的睫毛互相刷拂，那种感觉，就好像是轻柔的蝴蝶在“亲吻”着你。
这首歌是美国抒情乡村歌手鲍勃.卡莱欧(Bob Carlisle)在他的女儿十六岁生日前夕，特别为女儿谱写的。卡莱欧在女儿生日前夕，突然惊觉女儿已经成长，不要再过多久，就即将就要远走高飞，离家去开创自己的人生。许多甜蜜的回忆，还有自己过去曾经错过、以及将来不会再拥有的机会，都浮现在他脑海，因此他萌生了这首歌的灵感。原本他并没有想要发表，只想把歌曲保留作送给女儿的礼物，但是在好友们的鼓励之下，才决定推出录音。本歌将一个父亲对女儿的爱写得感人致极。《旧金山纪事》报曾报导，有边开车边听此歌的听众把车子停到路边，泣不成声……
 
来自加州的卡莱欧，1956年出生于洛杉矶，儿童时代就开始接受音乐的训练。70年代初期，在加州蓬勃发展的福音歌曲运动中，他接触到所谓的“流行福音歌曲（即宏扬宗教的歌曲）”，先是在十六岁加入福音乐队，然后又成为职业的录音室歌手，为许多著名歌手与作曲家的专辑助阵。有一天，他在一家餐厅参与演唱，唱到一半，他突然情绪翻腾，无法克制自己的逃离舞台，跑到巷子里掩面痛哭，觉得自己再也无法忍受替别人唱和声的生涯，希望上帝给他指引，就算上帝要他替人洗车为生，他也不在乎，只求上帝告诉他，今后该何去何从。几天之后，乐队的伙伴Randy Thomas前去探望他，表示自己打算成立一支乐队，邀请他参加，担任主唱。就这样，他成了一个福音歌手，跟乐队的伙伴们四处巡回演唱，并且发行自己的CD，相当的受欢迎，后来乐队并且转往纳许维尔发展。而在演唱之余，他也继续尝试作曲。1989年，他所谱写的Why'd You Come In Here Lookin' Like That被女歌手Dolly Parton唱上了乡村排行的冠军。1992年，乐队宣告解散，卡莱欧决定展开独唱歌手的生涯，继续在流行福音歌坛奋斗。
连续两张个人专辑之后，他在1997年加盟Diadem唱片公司，推出“Butterfly Kisses”专辑，写下了惊人的成绩，同名标题歌曲在排行榜上扶摇直上、并夺取了1998年的第四十届格莱美(Grammy Awards)“最佳乡村歌曲”奖，专辑也登上了全美排行的冠军宝座。蝴蝶之吻(Butterfly Kisses)现在已经成为美国人婚礼上必不可少的经典歌曲。
 
在这首歌曲里面，卡莱欧回忆起女儿小的时候，他经常陪着女儿做睡前的祷告，同时感谢着上帝赐给他这许多生命中的欢乐，特别是祈祷过后，父女两人亲密的“蝶吻”。女儿头一次骑马的时候，要求父亲陪在旁边的可爱表情；头一次下厨做蛋糕，成品的样子虽然不好看，却也是难忘的回忆。后来，女儿十六岁了，出落得越来越像母亲，也逐渐开始用香水和化妆品。不过，这个时候的女儿，已经不好意思再和从前一样，跟父亲靠得那么紧了，女儿说，“爸爸，你知道我还是一样的爱你，可是，假如你不介意，这次我想只亲吻你的脸颊。”他知道，女儿已经长大，即将离巢单飞。如今，他们来到了另外一个新的阶段：今天，女儿就要结婚了，他看着穿上礼服的女儿，心中无比的感慨，他是否就要永远失去女儿了呢？女儿强作镇定的安慰父亲，再度给他“蝶吻”，同时请爸爸不要哭，陪她走上圣坛，因为是时候了。回首过往、瞻望未来，他相信自己必定曾经做过一些好事，才配拥有女儿的爱，以及那些令人难忘的“蝶吻”。生命，就是这样，这就是爱，你还能要求什么呢？虽然他知道自己必须放手，但他将永远记得这些年来每个早晨的拥抱，还有那些“蝶吻”。

Butterfly Kisses (Shades of Grace) was my first release through Diadem Records. I'll never forget my first meeting with then owner/president of Diadem Records, George King. He looked me straight in the eye and told me that he loved what I do. He knew every song…every album. Then he said, “Bob, I don't have much, but what I do have, I'll put behind YOU.” These are words that are more important than gold to an artist, because it represented a true belief, not just a short-term investment. We have now sold over 3 million albums since that little meeting.
The song Butterfly Kisses was written for my daughter Brooke, just prior to her 16th birthday. I was struck late one night with the reality that my baby girl had grown up and that she would not be under my roof for too much longer. The joy of so many happy memories and the burden of missed opportunities collided in my heart and the song just poured out. When I wrote it, I never expected it to be recorded, not on my record or anyone else's. I was content for it to be my private love letter to Brooke. I am humbled and thrilled at it's success, but most of all, I am in awe of God. I am living proof that He can do anything He wants.
