C.will leave          D.should remain
解析:句意为:大量证据表明,中午小睡会使你在接下来的四五个小时里精神焕发。suggest 在句中的意思是“暗示,表明”,不可接虚拟语气,排除B、D两项。help 不可接过去分词作宾语补足语,故选择C项。
答案:C

30.I got caught in the rain and my suit ______.
A.has ruined                              B.had ruined
C.has been ruined              D.had been ruined
解析:本题考查的是动词时态和语态。句中的语境告诉我们“我淋了雨”;在这里动作发生在过去,而现在的结果是我的西装遭殃了,所以使用现在完成时。本句的主语是物,因此要使用被动语态。D项 had been ruined 干扰性较大,意即:我的西装在我淋雨前就遭殃了,所以是错误的。
答案:C
31.—I don't think you could have been used to the quick pace of life while studying in the USA, ______ you?
—______. I thought of returning to our country at on time.
A.had; Yes                          B.do; Yes
C.have; No                         D.were; No
解析:本题考查的是反意疑问句。I don't think...句型的反意疑问句需要注意否定转移至从句,而且反意疑问句中的主语和谓语需由从句来确定,即要与从句一致,本句中否定转移后,从句成了否定,You couldn't have been...,又因为从句为对过去的推测,句中又有明确的过去时间状语,所以本句为过去时,即 were you?
第二空后有“我一直在考虑回国”,证明对美国的生活并不适应,因此选择否定的回答。
答案:D

34.Sometimes advertisements make ______ possible for companies to sell the customers ______ money cannot buy.
A./; that                              B.it; what
C.that; which                     D./; whose
解析:在“make+sb./sth.+adj.”这一结构中,常用 it 作形式宾语,而把真正的宾语动词不定式、动名词或从句置后,本句中真正的宾语是不定式短语,故用 it 作形式宾语。第二空考查宾语从句,从句中谓语动词 buy 后缺宾语,意为“钱所买不到的”,故用 what。
答案:B
35.—Could we put off the meeting?
—______. This is the only way everyone is available.
A.Not likely                       B.Not exactly
C.Not nearly                      D.Not really

答案:D

Thousands of people in the world are a hundred years old - or more and certain parts of the world are famous for the long lives of their inhabitants: the Vilacamba Valley in Ecuador, and the home of the Hunzas in the Himalayas.
Why do so many people live to a healthy old age in certain parts of the world? What is the secret of their long lives? Three things seem to be very important: fresh air, fresh food and a simple way of life. People work near their homes in the clean mountain air instead of traveling long distances to work by bus, car or train. They do not sit all day in busy offices or factories, but work hard outdoors in the fields. They take more exercise and eat less food than people in the cities of the West. For years the Hunzas of the Himalayas did not need policemen, lawyers or doctors. There was no crime, no divorce and not much illness in their society. They were a happy, peaceful people, famous all over India for their long, healthy lives.
Do you want to live to a hundred years old? Here are some rules for success. First, live in the right place. Second, choose the right kind of job. Doctors, dentists and bus-drivers die young. Farmers, priests and orchestral conductors live much longer. If you are in the wrong kind of job, you can still improve your way of life.
An old man in the Caucasus was talking about his past life. “I was young then,” he said, as he described his 87th year. His secret was: “Think young and stay young.” An old woman from Missouri, the USA, gave this advice, “Drink a little whisky and some warm beer every day.” An English lady just said, “Take a cold bath every morning.” The shortest, simplest piece of advice came from Mr Jim Chapman, aged 103. “Just keep breathing,” he told reporters.
56. Who is most likely to live a long life?
A. A doctor.
B. A bus-driver.
C. A dentist.
D. An orchestral conductor.
57. We can see from the passage that long-lived people avoid ______.
A. working hard                              B. drinking
C. eating too much                          D. taking cold baths
58. The passage indicates that we can change our ______ to live a long life.
A. jobs                                    B. places of living
C. ways of living              D. ways of thinking
59. What is mainly talked about in the last paragraph?
A. Whose advice is the best.
B. Who is the most long-lived person in the world.
C. Lifestyles of long-lived people. D. How long-lived people think of their life.
答案及解析:

Herds of zebra, impala and giraffe from South Africa's Kruger Park found a new home as part of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park (GLTP) wildlife relocation project.
About 1 000 animals, from the large blue wildbeast to the stocky warthog, have been relocated to the park straddling South African, Mozambican and Zimbabwean territory.
The game from South Africa arrived in the Massingir area of Mozambique's southern Maputo province after a one-and-a-half-hour trip by truck.
South African National Parks chief executive Mavuso Msimang and the Peace Parks Foundation officially handed over the animals to Mozambican representatives.
“This project is not only about the management of an ecosystem, but also about community empowerment and tourism,” Msimang said.
Border fences are coming down with the establishment of the park, which will be the world's biggest reserve, to allow elephants and other herds to follow ancient migration routes.
The park, due to be officially opened next year, will be bigger than the Netherlands, covering some 38 600 square kilometers(15 440 square miles).
Under a three-year plan, about 6 000 animals are to be moved into the area, where wildlife was decimated(大批杀害)during Mozambique's 25-year civil war.
African Wildlife Foundation community development officer Jeremiah Machavi said 62 communities living in the area would be affected by the establishment of Transfrontier Park. Tourists will be able to travel across international boundaries in the park without having to show their passports.
The relocation process started in October last year when about 30 elephants were released into the park.
60. ______ is being established to relocate some African animals.
A. Kruger Park
B. GLTP
C. South African National Park
D. African Wildlife Foundation
61. How many more animals will be taken to Transfrontier Park?
A. About 1 000.          B. About 6 000.
C About 5 000.           D. About 7 000.
62. What will not be affected by the establishment of GLTP?
A. The ecosystem and tourism.
B. Tourism and communities.
C. International boundaries.
D. African wildlife.
63. From the passage we can conclude that ______.
A. the herds of animals mentioned in the first paragraph were the first to be taken to the park
B. the Great Limpopo Transfrontier is located in Moz mbique
C. no border fences will be seen inside the park so that animals can migrate
D. the Netherlands is the second largest reserve
答案及解析:
60.B。细节题。从第一段可看出是把这些动物迁往一个名叫the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park (GLTP)的地方。
61.C。细节计算题。从第二段可知有大约1 000只动物,而倒数第三段说Under a three-year plan, about 6 000 animals are to be moved into the area,因此还有大概5 000只动物。
62.C。句意理解题。第二段中the park straddling South African, Mozambican and Zimbabwean territory可见这个park跨越几个国家,但这些国家的边界不变,只是游客在园中游玩时,无需出示过境护照,Tourists will be able to travel across international boundaries in the park without having to show their passports。
63.C。细节判断题。从Border fences are coming down with the establishment of the park to...allow elephants and other herds to follow ancient migration routes可看出。
C
The average person learns most of the 30 000~40 000 words whose meanings he or she recognizes by hearing them or getting familiar with them in the context or simply absorbing them without conscious effort. The best way to build a good vocabulary, therefore, is to read a great deal and to participate in a lot of good talks. There are relatively few words that we learn permanently by purposefully referring to dictionaries or keeping word lists. However, even those extra few are of value, and no one will make a mistake by working on developing a larger vocabulary. Here are some suggestions of how to do it.
Read plenty of good books. When you come across a new word, or a new meaning of an old word, stop and see if you can understand it from its context. If you can't, and if you can manage without interrupting the thought of the book too much, look it up in a dictionary or ask somebody and then repeat its meaning to yourself a couple of times. If you are really conscientious(认真的), write the word and its meaning in a personal vocabulary list - preferably using it in a sentence, or you can keep a special vocabulary notebook. Go over the list from time to time. Further, try to use a new word in writing or conversation a few times over the next several days.
Listen to good talks and be alert to new words you hear or to new meanings of words you already know. Then treat them just as you treat the new words you read.
Learn and be alert to the parts of words: prefixes, suffixes and roots. Knowing them enables you to make intelligent guesses about the meanings of words.
If you are studying a foreign language, be alert to words in that language which relate to words in English. English has inherited(继承) or borrowed much of its vocabulary of 500 000~600 000 words from Latin, Greek, French, Spanish and German.
64. When you meet a new word in reading, what should you do?
A. Guess its meaning.
B. Ask somebody.
C. Look it up in a dictionary.
D. All of the above.
65. According to this passage, the best way to build a good vocabulary is ______.
A. to remember a lot
B. to read a great deal
C. to take part in a lot of good talks
D. both B and C
66. The phrase “be alert to” in the third paragraph may best be replaced by “______”.
A. look at                                              B. pay attention to
C. write down                                       D. learn by heart
67. In the fourth paragraph, the word “them” refers to ______.
A. the parts of words                            B. prefixes
C. suffixes                                           D. roots
答案及解析:
怎样扩大词汇?捷径是:多读、多说、多听、多写。
64. D。细节题。从第二段第二、三句话可知答案为 D。
65. D。细节题。只要看到第一段第二句话The best way to build a good vocabulary, therefore, is to read a great deal and to participate in a lot of good talks.可知答案为 D。
66. B。词义猜测题。此处讲的是在“听”英语时如何对待生词的问题,根据我们“听”的经验选项A、C、D 显然可排除。
67. A。词义猜测题。B、C、D三项都是属于the parts of words。
D
If you're a male and you're reading this, congratulations:you're a survivor.According to statistics, you're more than twice as likely to die of skin cancer as a woman, and nine times more likely to die of AIDS.Assuming you make it to the end of your natural term, about 78 years for men in Australia, you'll die on average five years before a woman.
There're many reasons for this-typically,men take more risks than women and are more likely to drink and smoke-but perhaps more importantly, men don't go to the doctor.
“Men aren't seeing doctors as often as they should,” says Dr Gullotta.“This is particularly so for the over-40s,when diseases tend to strike.”
Gullotta says a healthy man should visit the doctor every year or two.For those over 45,it should be at least once a year.
According to a recent survey,95% of women aged between 15 and early 40s see a doctor once a year, compared to 70% of men in the same age group.
“A lot of men think they're invincible(不可战胜的),” Gullotta says.“They only come in when a friend drops dead on the golf course and they think, gee, if it could happen to him...”
“Then there's the ostrich approach. Some men are scared of what might be there and would rather not know,”says Dr Ross Cartmill.
“Most men get their cars serviced more regularly than they service their bodies,”Cartmill says.He believes most diseases that commonly affect men could be addressed by preventive check-ups.
“Regular check-ups for men would surely place strain(紧张)on the public purse,”Cartmill says.“But prevention is cheaper in the long run than having to treat the disease.Besides, the final cost is far greater:it's called premature(未到期的)death.”68.From the passage we can know the natural term for women in Australia is about ______ years.
A.73                 B.78
C.83                 D.88
69.What does the author think is the most important reason why men die five years earlier on average than women?
A.Men drink and smoke much more than women.
B.Men don't seek medical care as often as women.
C.Men aren't as careful as women in face of danger.
D.Men are more likely to suffer from serious disease.
70.Which of the following best completes the sentence“gee, if it could happen to him...” in para.6?
A.it could happen to me, too
B.I should avoid playing golf
C.I should consider myself lucky
D.it would be a big misfortune
71.What does Cartmill say about regular check-ups for men?
A.They may increase public expense.
B.They will save money in the long run.
C.They may cause psychological strain on men.
D.They will enable men to live as long as women.
答案及解析:
68.C。从第一段最后一句话Assuming you make it to the end of your natural term, about 78 years for men in Australia, you'll die on average five years before a woman可知答案。
69.B。从第二段可知答案。
E
Chemicals used for industrial processes often create dangerous forms of waste. The amount of these chemicals has risen heavily in the past few years, as more areas of the world industrialize and new products are produced. Over 80 000 different chemicals are used in industries worldwide. Around the world hundreds of millions of tons of harmful waste are produced each year. Often, it is difficult and expensive to get rid of these chemicals or to store them in a way that does not endanger human life and the environment.
Every year, major health problems result from harmful waste. Sadly, it is often when someone has died or, become seriously ill that governments will take action and reduce levels of dumped harmful waste. In 1989, a school in New Jersey
had to be closed because students there had suffered too much exposure to chromium. It was later learned that large amounts of chromium had been dumped nearby and blown over to the school area.
Research has been done to provide information on the effects of every chemical. Because waste chemicals often mix together, it will also be necessary to learn how the combinations of these chemicals affect human health.
Some governments have realized how serious the problem is and are making laws to get rid of harmful waste. They are also trying to limit the amount of waste industries are allowed to produce.
Not only governments but the public as well must form part of the solution. They can choose not to buy those products which require the production of harmful waste, attempt to affect policymakers, and produce less harmful waste themselves. Many scientists think that waste production can be cut. The waste can be reduced by at least one- third using existing technologies and methods.
72.What is mainly discussed in the text?
A.The effect of every chemical.
B.Problems of harmful waste.
C.Chemicals used for industrial processes.

The modern Olympic Games were founded with the intention of improving health and education, promoting world peace and encouraging fair and equal competition. But over the years, the Olympic saying, ”Faster, higher, stronger”, has pushed scientists as well as athletes to do everything possible to reach new levels.Doctors, engineers and coaches all use everything science can offer to achieve that little bit extra in competition. The reason modern technology has become part of sports is very simple: Winning is just as important as it was 2 500 years ago at the Olympics of ancient Greece.
Development in technology has often been reflected in the methods of training and performance used at the Olympics through history. This technology falls into two main groups: improving an athlete's performance in competition, and allowing results to be measured more accurately.
One of the creations that have drawn the most attention is the new high-tech swimsuit from Speedo, which was used by most US swimmers in Athens. Until Sydney 2000, it was thought that the smaller the swimsuit, the faster the swimmer would travel.
“However, the fact that at the Sydney Olympics, 28 of the 33 gold medallists were wearing the body covering Fastskin suit proved the theory was out of date,” said Andy Thomas, vice-president of Speedo.
The company's full body suit is supposed to make swimmers 3 to 4 percent faster, particularly when turning or diving into the water. It is believed that the suit creates less water resistance as it moves, behaving more like a shark skin than a human skin.
The introduction of high-tech equipment means that athletes in all sports, from the 100-metre sprint(短跑) to the pole vault(撑杆跳高), can now train more effectively and nourish (给……以营养) their bodies better.
Meanwhile, scientific development also means performances can be measured and studied far more accurately. Not only are winning times more accurately recorded, but cheating athletes are also easier to catch out. According to International Olympic Committee (IOC) requirements, two independent measuring systems should be used at all venues(比赛地点). Athens 2004 organizers used only the very latest equipment to measure distance and speed.

范文
Dear Sir,
As a senior high school student, whenever I go to school, I can see some people breaking traffic rules. For example, some pedestrians often go through the red traffic light, and some people don't cross the street at the pedestrian crossing. What's worse, some cars exceed the speed limit on busy streets if there are no police working there.I hate these offenders but can't do anything to stop them.
In my view, it is the duty of every citizen to obey the traffic rules for the sake of your and others' safety. We mustn't neglect the fact that a large number of people are injured or die in traffic accidents every year.I suggest we have more policemen or assistants working at the crossroads and on the busy streets.Whoever breaks the rules should be fined and punished.Only in this way will everyone follow the rules and can we have a better traffic environment.
Yours,
Wang Tao
