        habit   指个人的行为“习惯”，无论是好的还是很坏的习惯。

  

 1) Forming a good habit needs perseverance while forming a bad one just needs time.

               (养成好习惯需要毅力，而形成坏习惯只是需要时间。)           2) Mary is constantly in debt for she has developed the habit of living out her means.

             （玛丽常常负债累累，因为她已养成入不敷出的习惯。）

 

         custom  指社会的“风俗”、“习俗”。

        
         1) As we all know, social customs vary in different parts of the world.        （正如我们都知道的, 世界不同的地方社会风俗各异。）

         2) When you go a foreign country, you conform yourself to the customs of the native people.

              （当你去国外，你必须遵守当地人的风俗习惯。）

 

          practice  指在某方面的具体习惯做法。          1) It is a bad practice to grow the same crop in a field year after year. Crops should be alternated every other year.   （年复一年在一块田里种同样的作物是个坏做法，农作物应该每隔一年交替种植。2) Self-employed people can and do reduce their security taxes simply by failing to report all of their income, which practice is clearly illegal.   

  （自己开业者可以简单地通过不报自己所有的收入来少交社会保险税，这种做法显然是违法的）

 

  routine   指“惯例”或“常规”。

     

  1) Going round to the bank was part of the routine of his work.

    （跑银行是他日常工作的一部分。）

           2) To have a medical checkup once a year has become a routine of our company.

             （一年一次例行体检已经成为我们公司的惯例。）
