这组形容词都可表示“能够的”的意思。
able 一般用词，含义较广，指有做某事所需的能力、知识、时间、条件等。capable侧重指做事的才能或适应性，常用结构capable of doing sth. 。competent 侧重指做事是否胜任或合格。
1) He is able to swim 3000 meters in the river.
（他能在河里游3000米。）
2) I was out of town yesterday and was not able to meet you at the airport.
